IN THE SPIRIT OF OUR PATRON, WE ARE COMMITTED TO:
Surrender to the redeeming love of Jesus through the Eucharist and the cross
Enrich the spiritual lives of our families
Educate and guide our youth in the ways of Christ
Reach out to meet the diverse needs of our parish and the community at large
Support life at all stages
OUR MISSION IS TO STRENGTHEN OUR PARISH BY BECOMING A BEACON OF FAITH
“We, the Community…”
We are gathered as a people dedicated to a “common-unity” of Christian
fellowship, finding our center in Jesus Christ. We strive to enter the spousal
love of God in whom all are called to live in the unity of love and divine life.
We are taken from out of this world by the power of Baptism and commissioned
to be a people dedicated to the work of God’s healing love in the world
through Jesus, Son of God and Son of Man.
“In the spirit of our Patron….”
St. Louis IX, King of France from the tender age of 12, reigned over France
in the 13th century, His strong faith, received from his regent mother, was
passed on to his own children. His staunch teaching against sin and his determined
battles in the name of the church, mark him well as a man of deep faith. His
love for justice and the poor of his kingdom also gave him a reputation of a
compassionate and caring leader with a strong sense of wisdom in judgment. This
service to faith, Church, youth, justice and the needy, becomes part of our
inherited gifts by which we are called to serve. The fleur-de-lis on our parish
icon reminds us of this heritage of faith and service we receive from our Patron.
“…we are committed to….”
Community commitment is more than the affirmation of a variety of individual
hopes and aspirations. It is a united effort to find a common ideal vision that
will allow us to walk together in a united direction. Each member and family
of the faith community must claim and support a united goal that has for its
purpose to give direction to the parish and effective service to the community
it is dedicated to.
“1. Surrender….”
Surrendering means to abandon our individual wills to a common higher goal chosen
by the community for the welfare of all. Surrendering is taking on the obedient
spirit of Jesus who humbled himself into becoming obedient, even to the obedience
of the Cross It is an acceptance of something greater than ourselves granted
to us for the common good. It is accepting to live by a community way that renders
individual preference subservient to the good of all.
2….Enrich the spiritual lives of our families….”
The main concern of the People of God in journey to eternal salvation is their
spiritual lives. It is important for us to commit ourselves primarily to developing
the inner spirit of the soul that will allow us to be individually and collectively
united in spirit with our creating Father. The main thrust of our parish family
must first be dedicated to our own spiritual growth. Parish liturgies and life
must first be concerned with the spiritual awakening of a people and a community
spirituality that allows us to grow together in the ways of Christ. It is only
when each member is founded on spiritual priorities that our families will find
their destiny in the unity of the Mystical Body.
“3…Educate and guide our youth in the ways of Christ….”
Pope John Paul II has greatly encouraged our young people to set their future
upon the following of Jesus Christ. But the real experience of Christ received
in the lives of our children comes from the family environment and the community
support. Parents have the serious responsibility to lead their children to the
Lord and to form their lives upon a deep searching thirst for God. This will
be possible only if parents form their own lives upon that passionate hunger
for their Creator and a powerful love for Christ and his Church. The community
must strive to offer religious education programs to sustain the teaching work
of the parents and assist them in this privileged work of continuing to nurture
the love of God in the hearts of youth. Youth programs must not isolate our
children into privatized peer groups, but must gather them as part of the total
community, teaching them to grow in their love, concern and service of the people
of God. Faith is not meant to be self-serving, but self-giving. Young people
should be allowed to follow the ways of Christ as their leader and to respond
generously to his leadership in their lives even at times unto a religious or
priestly vocation. They are meant to be the bearers of his love to serve the
needs of mankind.
“4. Reach out to meet the diverse needs of our parish and the community
at large..”
Christ came to forgive sinners, heal the sick, feed the poor, and proclaim the
Good News to all. Our parish should imitate the love of Christ as portrayed
in the works of St. Louis in regard to the poor and the needy. By putting on
a heart of hospitality in our celebrations and in our good works, we will show
the authentic value of our love and bring service to those who come to us clothe
with their private crosses and burdens and seeking the support of life-giving,
relief-bearing and self-giving fellow Christians. The spirit of community must
always stand above the spirit of individuality. The body of Christ needs to
be a healing influence in the midst of our present day society who suffers the
isolation of hostility and personal pain. We must become the Good Samaritan
to our brothers and sisters.
“5. Support life at all stages..
To stand with God and for God means that we are protectors and supporters of
all life. We are to empower life and bring about the best environment for life
to be lived, experienced, transformed in suffering and brought to perfection
for the glory of God. All that we do on behalf of life, we do in support of
the Father’s eternal creating love for which Christ rendered service in
obedient sacrifice.
“….OUR MISSION…”
In the light of all the above information, because of the example given us by
our Patron Saint and in view of the five main commitments to which we bring
our faith, work and services, we are now able to better understand that we have
a unique MISSION to accomplish; WHICH IS TO STRENGTHEN OUR PARISH BY BECOMING
BEACONS OF FAITH. As a people of faith, we have been given the special gifts,
call and mission to which we attest through prayer, study and pledge. At the
end of our every weekend Mass, the mission of Christ is rendered to all the
people that each community and every individual “go in peace” to
live by the unique qualities, goals and priorities empowered and revealed to
them by the Spirit of God.
