A people in journey have
entered the new millennium with heart unfurled as we set sail in a holy adventure
toward the celebration of our 75th anniversary. In 1928 Rev. Louis Prevost prevailed upon his Ordinary to establish
a parish for the 80 families of French descent clustered on the Somerset-Swansea
line. The parish received canonical birth on March 13, 1928. The foundations
had been laid for a people who now number 1300 families.
In 1951 the present church was dedicated and blessed while the original church remained to serve as our present parish hall. The parish school opened in 1911 and served the local families until 1971 with the Sisters of St. Joseph du Puys staffing the school through most of its history.
In 1998 a 5-year preparation of renewal was begun for our 75th jubilee. We are now a people in transition. A breath of new life now calls us to examining our vision and hope for the future.
As Louis IX, King of France, patron of our parish community, we walk with ever-youthful hopes and commitment to the faith, which we have inherited, from our founding parents and grandparents. We are committed to celebrate this heritage through the instrument of our Memorial Prayer Corner. With St. Louis we desire to keep our roots solidly imbedded in the love of the Blessed Sacrament for which we dedicate and bless our newly formed Day Chapel and Childrens Sunday Prayer Room. Our parish traditions hold a deep love for the Blessed Mother whose statue graces our front lawn.
King Louis had a great devotion for the Cross and was instrumental in bringing our Catholic tradition of liturgies to be celebrated in the presence of the cross as we see so clearly defined in our sanctuary. Louis also empowered the French custom of wayside cross-shrines. In celebration of this historical fact, the parish enters the New Millennium of hope and reconciliation by erecting such a shrine on our front lawn as a memorial for life 2000.
May our visitors all feel warmed in the prayerful moment of sharing with a people of faith whose vision moves into the grace of future expectations in service to Gods will in our mission. Thank you for sharing your time with us.
